Crib Notes

The baby room is taking shape, in that it now has baby room stuff in it!

The holiday break has afforded me the time to start opening the crib and dresser boxes, pull out the assorted pieces, the 900 screws and washers and assemble them!

Tonight we put down the baby room carpet (no screws or washers needed there) and built the crib. It was only at the very last step that I realized I missed Step 1B. Why was it called Step “1B” instead of Step 2? Because that would have made too much sense. Regardless, luckily it was a quick fix. Behold Baby Dubb’s spacious new digs:

Meanwhile, Chloe couldn’t decide if she was more excited about the new furniture and carpet, or the giant cardboard boxes they came in.

Week 25

Christmas came a day early as we had a perfect six-month check up today. Of note, Amanda’s belly was measured for the first time. We learned that the measurement in centimeters should equal the same number of pregnancy weeks, so be sure to drop that fact at your upcoming New Year’s Eve party.

Tonight we celebrated Christmas with the Walters and Fleurys and before you see a bump picture, you have to first scroll through some of the photos from the evening. I assume most of the readers of this blog were, in fact, at this gathering, and this shouldn’t pose a problem.

So exciting! I will ignore the fact that Amanda also got one that says “I love mommy”

So, you’ve made it this far? Your reward:

Baby Dubbs is 13.5 inches long and 1.5 pounds!  She’s the size “of an average rutabaga” according to babycenter.com. What is rutabaga, you ask? I think these baby sites are starting to make up terms trying to trick unsuspecting new parents. However, if you would like to learn what a rutabaga is, please see the link.

Have a great holiday and new year, faithful blog readers.  2014 should be very exciting!

Brought to you by Philips

Amanda’s dad, Tom, is just about the perfect father-in-law.  To wit: he allowed me to marry his only daughter, he gave me his left-handed golf clubs when I proclaimed a new and sudden interest in golf (it turns out golf is really hard), he welcomes us to his timshare in Aruba each year and he just gave us a TON of baby products!

DSC_2303Chloe is growing more confused about the baby as the days go on

Tom works for Philips and Philips owns the Avent brand of baby products….and Tom was nice enough to pick up many items for us at a nice employee discount.  Thanks, Tom! Santa will be good to you this year.  Also, hopefully this banner advertisement will be one way we can return the favor to Philips.  This site does get a ton of visitors.

So it’s Week 24 and we’re six months pregnant!  Our baby is the size of an ear of corn and has gained 4 ounces since last week – which is a lot considering she only weighed 1 pound last week.

Lately, Amanda has been feeling the effects of carrying around our increasingly heavy baby. For those concerned, this has meant I have officially lost my spot on the couch for the duration of the pregnancy. We all make sacrifices.

Here’s what 6 months looks like:

And here’s what our favorite pairs of baby clothes look like:

Here’s a name clue: the outfit Amanda is holding reminds her of the name we want to use! Ponder that!

Visit Philips Avent while you ponder that.

Snoogles

“Snoogle” is a popular word in our house lately.  It has come up in sentences such as:

“Zack, I want a Snoogle.”

“Zack, I just texted Alicia about Snoogles.”

“I really want a Snoogle.”

“What color Snoogle should I get?”

“I just talked to Alicia about different kinds of Snoogles.”

“Move over, I need to Snoogle on the couch.”

As I type this, I am stuck at the end of the couch while my wife – and a Snoogle – occupy my usual comfy corner.  It is Week 23 and Baby Dubbs is growing and kicking and causing Amanda to need all kinds of Snoogle-ly support.

In non-Snoogle news, after being away for work most of last week, I pulled into the driveway to find two HUGE boxes blocking the front door. Our crib and dresser arrived, courtesy of both sets of grandparents. Between work travel, holiday parties and Christmas shopping, I plan to finish assembling them sometime before Dubbs is six years old.

This week, our girl can feel when Amanda dances. And since she’s inside Amanda, I bet she feels this very often. According to what we’ve read, her ears are clearly picking up sounds going on around Amanda that will prepare her for the outside world. So, our baby will be prepared for bad shows on Netflix Instant but also fun words like “Snoogle.”

Here she is, at one pound and the size of a mango!

For those interested, here is the Week 23 sign I made that Amanda rejected. She doesn’t understand my art.

Cat Hammocks

All this baby talk and change has been hard on Chloe.

So lately she’s been taking it easy in her new cat hammock that happens to be in the baby’s room. And isn’t – in any way – a tub for babies.

Hey All! Pics are in 🙂  Plus we have some bonus shots with Chloe girl~*

Bump Pic First! And check out this week’s sign!! Grandma Cadigan really stepped up to the plate when Zack challenged her to to top his week 21 artwork – and I gotta say she did! Love my special sign – and it goes perfectly with our Poetic Princess pink walls 🙂

Week 22

Hi All! I know it’s Tuesday (AKA: BUMP PIC DAY!) But Zack is away on business – leaving me short a photographer – so today’s pic has been postponed! But don’t worry, you won’t have to wait too long because G’Ma C will be filling in to capture the pic on Thursday! 🙂

To hold you over until then, here are some fun facts about the baby this week!

22 weeks: Your baby is about the size of a spaghetti squash

This week, your baby weighs in at a whopping pound and measures nearly eight inches, about the size of a small doll. But your little doll (who now has eyebrows, eyelashes, and maybe even some hair on that little head) is a living one who can now perceive light and dark. She can also hear your voice, your heartbeat, your gurgling stomach, and the whoosh-whoosh of blood circulating through your body. And as her brain and nerve endings develop, she may reach for her face (or whatever she can reach) just to experiment with her newfound sense of touch.

How Many Grandmas Does It Take to Paint a Room?

2!

Thanks to Tracy and Cathy for helping me paint the baby’s room these last few weekends (due to the fumes and potential risk to the baby, Amanda wasn’t able to help out).

But that’s okay.  Along with quality time with my two favorite moms, I was fortunate enough to get expert painting advice/help/tools.

Since I can’t personally feel the baby kicks exactly the same way Amanda does, painting the room “Poetic Princess” pink was a fun way for me to get excited that we’re having a baby girl.

Complete “before and after” pics will be coming in the future.  How’s that for a cliffhanger?
